It has become almost impossible to imagine professional translation services without advanced trasnslation software. A simple word processing program is no longer sufficient to satisfy modern-day quality requirements in the translation sector. Those requirements relate to speed and, more importantly, to consistency in terminology and phrasing, and the latter in particular is eminently served by automated translation tools.
Put briefly, translation software enables the translator to store all his or her translations in segmented general or client-specific memories. This allows the program to recognise and replicate recurrent text fragments and to store specific terminology in a structured manner in automated databases. In addition, the software offers a set of tools enabling the translator to consult and use those translation databases in a variety of practical ways.
Since February 2014, all translators at Metamorfose use the TRADOS Studio 2014 translation program as standard. This is the most recent version of the celebrated TRADOS suite for professional translators, which has for many years been among the world’s leading programs in this field.
Metamorfose decided to switch to the next generation of translation software at this early stage in order to remain entirely up to date as regards efficiency requirements and to offer its translators the best possible translation tools. Another significant consideration is the fact that several major clients, including the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Commission in Brussels, demand that we use the most advanced translation software. This has to do with the need to ensure maximum consistency, and to exchange automated translation memories and process texts with maximum efficiency.
